Late start today, being advised by the lock keeper at Keadby to leave at 13:10 to get to Keadby by 18:00. Had fry-up for lunch. We left in convoy with the other two boats from Ripon with me leading. Left on time and had the first hour and a half pushing against the tide doing only 3 mph after that it increased gradually to 7 mph through Gainsborough peaking at 8 mph through West Stockwith. It dropped off a bit by the time we reached Keadby. the wind was very strong again and the river being wider here was very rough, but we battled on. Being my first time into Keadby I was a bit apprehensive after all the horror stories I had been told about hitting the wall. The flow past the mouth of the lock was quite fast but I managed to get in first time without bumping the lock sides....big smile on my part. Locked up and moored on the off side on the permanent mooring for the night.
