Left at ~ 10:00 after filling up with water, wetting my leg when testing the tap did a 360 degree turn to find the water point that was in front of me, hit the prop with something and had to check I hadn't got anything tangled on it we went through the first lock onto the main river Trent down to Cranford Lock at a break neck speed of 5.5 mph, which may seem slow, but we have been doing just over 3 mph on the canal. Made good progress down to Beeston Lock and cut to stop at Sainsburys when the heavens opened up with thunder lightening, hailstones and rain....I just stood holding the rope with a brolly and got soaked as I couldn't moor up until it stopped. Margaret and Niamh running around shutting all the doors, windows and skylights. Got changed and went for provisions and set off to Holme Lock. We shared the locks with another short narrowboat and a cruiser. Now we are on the river we have seen more wildlife......6 herons, 2 kingfishers, grebe family, cormorants and Niamh says she saw a bat under the bridge.
