Left at 09:15, the weather was overcast and drizzely showers. Passed a working boat delivering coal to moored boats just past Bogg's Lock. The remainder of the Staffs & Worcs Canal was shallow and in places you pass through "Narrows", which is cuttings cut out of solid rock and just wide enough for one narrowboat to pass and in some cases on blind corners with a bridge when you enter. Keeps you on your toes, bottomed a few times, it felt at times I was going over a sofa, especially when passing other boats. Turned onto the Shropshire Union Canal at Autherley Junction, where you turn a sharp corner (135 degrees) into a stop lock with a 6" fall. It was put in when built to stop the canal companies stealing each others water. Pushed on for another hour through more narrows and cuttings to Brewood (pronounced brood). Being one of the early canals built by Brindley this canal follows the landscape and uses cuttings to avoid building locks.
